Many people around the world suffer from mental illness. Mental health issues vary in severity, but they’re all serious. It can be hard to know what to do when you’re faced with a mental illness. Here’s a guide on how to deal with mental illness if you have one or know someone with one:
Talk About It
If you have a mental illness, the worst thing you can do is not talk about it. If you keep it all bottled up inside, it will only make things worse. Go to your friends and family and tell them that you think you have a mental issue. They’re not going to judge you, in fact, they’ll be very supportive. Telling people about your issues can make a whole load of difference. It can make it far easier for you to deal with your illness.
Likewise, if you don’t have a mental illness, but know someone who does, don’t be afraid to talk to them about it. It’s, likely, they won’t bring it up because they’re worried about how you’ll react. Make sure you’re always there to talk to them and listen to their problems. Don’t treat them any differently because they have a mental illness.

Get Extra Help
There are some cases where mental illness can seriously affect the way you live your life. It leads you unable to do certain things that you used to be able to do. In order to deal with this change, it’s best you got some extra help. There is in home care available to people who suffer from certain mental illnesses. Commonly people with a memory-related illness will benefit from getting extra help around the house.
If you know someone that suffers from a mental illness consider finding them a carer to help them deal with it. Similarly, if you suffer from mental illness, think about whether a carer is good for you too.
See A Doctor
As I’ve mentioned, talking to people is a great way to help cope with mental illness. It would also be a great idea to talk to your doctor about it. If you have a mental illness, book an appointment to see a doctor. If you see them, they can ask you more thorough questions and get a proper diagnosis of the disease. They can then do something to benefit you greatly and write you a prescription. This prescription allows you to get medication that can help deal with your mental illness. People with anxiety issues are often prescribed pills that calm them down and make it easier to cope. There may not be medication for your mental illness, but see a doctor to find out.
If you know someone close to you with a mental illness, tell them to see a doctor. Offer to go with them to provide some emotional support. Lots of people don’t want to see the doctor about issues like this, so help them out. Try and talk them into it and get them to book an appointment, you could be doing them a great service
