Ways To Manage Your Back Pain

If you have ever suffered from pains in your back, you are not alone. Nearly all of us will experience back pain at some point in our lives. It may be caused by overworking our bodies or by stress. It can even be caused by a lack of sleep. Whatever has caused it, back pain is one of the most debilitating conditions we can suffer. Your pain may be coming from a muscle, a nerve or the spine itself, but the pain will prevent you doing even everyday tasks.

Depending on the type of pain, you may want to consult different doctors. The pain may be relieved by a chiropractor or physical therapist, for instance, if it is caused by a muscle. A neurologist like Dr Timothy Steel could identify the nerve that is causing the pain and provide treatment. If the pain is caused by the spine itself, an orthopedic specialist may be able to provide treatment.

In many cases, back pain is caused due to poor posture. If you have pain in your back, it is advised to adjust your posture to compensate. You may lean to one side or hunch over. These should be avoided whenever possible. If your posture is incorrect, you will start to find other aches and pains throughout your body very quickly. For muscular pain, try a massage from someone qualified in sports massage. If your system can tolerate it, try some anti-inflammatory painkillers. These come in tablet or topical gel form from your pharmacist.

If you have poor posture, you may be suffering from more back pain than other people. Poor posture can be improved with exercise. You may want to see a physiotherapist for exercises to improve rotation and movement of limbs affected by your posture. Dancers have excellent posture because they train regularly to strengthen their core muscles. Their neck muscles are secure to hold their head up well. Back and shoulders are also held very straight. To develop this core strength, you could try Yoga classes for beginners. In the military soldiers are trained to stand very upright and still for prolonged periods of time. You could try standing in front of a mirror and correcting your posture, then holding it for thirty seconds each day.

Pain in the very bottom of your spine could be caused by coccydynia. This pain can be excruciating and stems from your tailbone or coccyx. There are many things that could cause an injury to your coccyx. Sitting will be very uncomfortable without a coccyx cushion and can become embarrassing. This particular problem should be dealt with by your doctor as it may require intervention from a physiotherapist or chiropractor to ease symptoms. Some doctors find this condition difficult to manage but if it affects your marital relations, a doctor is more likely to try and help you.

Any problems in your back, neck, shoulders or pelvis can have devastating effects on your life. Regular exercise to improve and maintain your core strength and posture is essential if you are prone to back problems. Pain in the back area can lead to depression and tiredness that will affect other areas of your life, so it is best to prevent problems in the first place. Supports can be supplied by your physiotherapist or your pharmacist to help you keep your body in the corrected positions. Without regular strengthening problems in the back can keep flaring up. Speak to your doctor if the pain continues.
