Keep Your Skin Looking Youthful for Longer With These Foolproof Tips

The skin is the largest organ we have on our bodies, so it’s important we look after it and keep it in tip top condition. We have a tendency to abuse our skin when we’re young, and although we may not notice the damage right away, it sure does come out and show us up in later years. Take action NOW, and protect your skin before it’s too late. Here’s how to futureproof your skin, and keep it looking youthful for longer:

Eat Right Most of the Time

The things you eat literally become you. Do you want to become a double cheeseburger and fries, or a nice plate of steak and vegetables? I’m not going to tell you that you can’t indulge every once in a while, but you should definitely eat right 80% of the time. For this 80%, avoid processed, refined, packaged, sugary, and salty foods. Also avoid any foods with long lists of ingredients, especially an ingredient called ‘aspartame’. Your goal should be to eat as much natural food as possible in order to nourish your body with what it craves naturally, so lots of lean meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, eggs, and greek yogurt. Eat the things you like in moderation…I suggest one day a week. You should begin to glow, and your body will thank you for all of the vitamins you’re putting into it. You may even lose weight as a welcome side effect!

Exercise Daily

Many people moan and whinge at the thought of doing any exercise at all, but it’s so good for our health and well being that it has a great impact on our skin too. You should do something every day for your body, even if it’s just a short walk. Getting into a routine with exercise is probably the hardest thing, so you need to mix it up to keep yourself interested. You could try swimming, spinning, biking, running, sprinting, walking, weight lifting, or dance classes – perhaps even a mixture of all of them! You should begin to feel great, and this will show in your complexion. Your body will get fitter and leaner too, which is a nice added bonus!

Moisturise as Often as You Need to

Moisturising is very important, especially after stepping out of the bath or shower. I suggest using a rich, thick moisturiser in order to give your skin a lovely soft, supple feel. You don’t just have to moisturise when stepping out of the bath or shower though, you could do it two, maybe three times a day. Make sure you concentrate on your hands, feet, knees, elbows, and anywhere else that seems to get particularly dry on your body. Your face should be treated to a moisturiser containing SPF every day, as it not only protects from the suns rays, but other harmful elements in the atmosphere. Select maybe a light day cream for morning, and a heavier night cream before bed. However, this will depend on your skin type so make sure you discuss this with a professional. If you feel your skin is past the point of moisturiser, you could consider a number of anti ageing treatments from a clinic like ABSAMC.com.

Drink Lots of Water

Water is so beneficial in many ways, I couldn’t possibly list every single benefit here. Here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Stay hydrated.

  • Ward off headaches.

  • Achieve glowing skin.

  • Lose weight.

  • Flush out toxins.

  • Fill you up when you feel like snacking.

Water should be your drink of choice. Drink 2-4 litres of water a day. Write times at certain points on a bottle in order to set yourself goals. You will finish the bottle much quicker and easier!

Treat Yourself to a Massage

Massage is great for blood flow, lymphatic drainage, and can even be anti-ageing. Whether you fancy a full body massage or a facial, you should treat yourself every now and again. You can search online for “facial near me in Sugar Land, TX” or elsewhere, and conduct similar searches massages to find suitable options as per your liking. The therapist should use products specially selected for your skin type, helping to keep your skin in the best condition possible.

Exfoliate

Get rid of dead skin cells that make your skin appear dull and flaky by exfoliating with a great scrub. You can do this with your body scrub of choice: I recommend either Frank Body or Soap and Glory. You can also use a dry body brush before getting in the shower to stimulate blood flow.

Protect Yourself in The Sun

Sunbathing can cause a hell of a lot of damage. Cover yourself in sunscreen of an appropriate SPF – only you know how sensitive your skin is to the sun, but either way – the higher the better. A tan is actually our skin’s way of protecting itself from sun damage, so you should be very careful out in the heat. Make sure you don’t miss anywhere, including your face!

Don’t Smoke

Smoking is bad for us in so many ways, and yet people still do it. Ageing the skin is one of the milder things it does; it also causes cancer, heart disease, strokes, heart attacks, and other vile diseases. That’s not all though…it yellows our teeth, makes us smell, and makes us look antisocial. Smoking is no longer the ‘big and clever’ thing it once was. We now know much more about it, and that’s why we need to stamp it out!

Drink Alcohol in Moderation

There’s nothing wrong with a drink every now and again, but limit is as much as you can. You should stick to the recommended amount for women per day at the very least, and always have one day off per week. Try not to binge – this is the worst thing you can do to your skin and body.

Don’t Stress!

Stress is one of the worst ways we can affect our skin. Not only will we get premature wrinkles and frown lines, but we’ll increase the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ which can make us fat (and affect our skin inadvertently). Do your best to be the greatest version of yourself and you will keep your skin looking plump and youthful for years to come.
